I am supposed to have a colposcopy very soon and my last period was on 5/15/06. I was on the pill and then stopped bc my prescription ran out. I have not started yet so I am like 2 weeks or more late. I have taken a pregnancy test everyday and they are all negative.. I have been taking the early detection ones also. I want desperately to get the colposcopy over with. If I was pregnant (which I dont think I am), what could happen if I had the colposcopy?

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU DON'T GET THE COLPOSCOPY BECAUSE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT THEN MORE THAN LIKELY YOU WILL HAVE A MISCARRIAGE... PLUS YOU NEED TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR OR WHOMEVER WILL BE DOING THE PROCEDURE. UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO LEARN THE HARD WAY CAUSE I WAS ONCE PREGNANT AND HAD A COLPOSCOPY COME TO FIND OUT THE DOCTOR WHO DID IT KNEW I WAS PREGNANT AND KNEW I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE GOTTEN IT DONE...SAD TO SAY I HAD A MISCARRIAGE AND I CAN'T SUE THE DOCTOR CAUSE IT WAS A MILITARY DOCTOR THAT DID MY PROCEDURE AND GUESS WHAT...I'M MILITARY...PLUS A COLPOSCOPY IS NOT ONLY A CLOSER LOOK AT YOUR CERVIX BUT DID THEY EXPLAIN TO YOU THAT THEY WILL BE CUTTING OFF A TINY PIECE ITS GOING TO FEEL LIKE SOMEONE PINCHED YOU, THEN IT WILL CRAMP FOR A LITTLE BIT AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU A PAD IN CASE YOU START TO BLEED.

I had to have a colposcopy when I was 4 months pregnant. There is nothing to worry about. There is no risk to the baby. It is just a close up view of your cervix. So get to your doctor and don't worry about the test and ask your doctor to do a pregnancy test while your there so you will know for sure if you are pregnant. Good luck!

Sexy Chocolate,
You had a biopsy during your colposcopy. There is a risk to the fetus if a minor surgical procedure is done. The colposcopy is basically a scope that shows your cervix on a tv screen for the doctor to get a better view. If the doctor sees a problem, then he may do a biopsy (cutting off a small piece of the cervix) to check for cancer. A colposcopy does not mean that a biopsy will be done. I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Prayers for you.

Colposcopy is a biopsy of the cervix. It isn't too painful. However, your obgyn will not do it if you are pregnant. The HAVE to give you a pregnancy test before they do it.

You may have experienced some stress within the first 2 wks of your cycle (maybe getting your abnormal pap test back), which delayed ovulation, which in turn, delayed your period.

When the nurse asks you when your last period was, definately tell her it was May 15th and you haven't gotton another one. She will give you a pregnancy test at the office. From there, they will determine the proper course of action.

I know its hard to not worry about it, but these tests are preventative measures, you will be fine. Take care.

Tell your OB/GYN everything you just put into this question. Then she will do a preganancy test in the office before the colposcopy. She may not want to be messing around with your cervix if your pregnant, but truthfully, it sounds like you are not.

You can get the colposcopy done if u are pregnant. They will just keep and eye on your cervix though out the pregnancy if you are. they will not do a biopsy if you are pregnant. I know i just had a baby in February and had 4 colpscopys done.

If you are getting it done because you have HPV (which 80% of sexually active Americans do have it most dont know it especially men) then you NEED to get it done. Get the Colposcopy.

I have had so many colps. that it is ridiculous. I continue to have them while pregnant, but do not allow the doctor to biopsy. If you tell the doctor that you do not want to be biopsied, they will not cut you. Trust me, 3 pregnancies later and 22 colps, my cervix stills bleeds on contact.

You should be ok. Just make sure you let your doctor know ahead of time. I would suggest calling your doctor up right now and let them know of your situation and your questions and go from there. That would be your best bet and on the safer side. Good Luck!
