Personally, I think The Order of the Pheonix is the best one because of the following reasons:

1. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Sirius etc become more 'fleshed out' as people. We see their good as well as their bad sides and learn how they communicate and react and protect each other.

2. We see how the wizarding community is just as corrupt and messed up as the 'muggle' community causing Dumbledore to go behind their backs to keep an eye out for Voldemort. we see how horrible they can really be. (eg. Umbridge)

3. I loved when Harry was teaching the others Defence Against the Dark Arts. We really see his skill in this area.

4. We meet Mungos Hospital (which is fantastic)

5. One of Harry's loved ones dies and we get to experience his feelings through this. Especially as it is his fault (i think anyway).

6. We see Snapes childhood experiences at school and realise that he was a victim of bullying even tho he is now a bully. And at the same time we learn a lot about Harry's father James and a little about Lily. (Who i think we find out more about in the last book)

I also LOVE the Half-Blood Prince but feel that this book provoked all kinds of feelings and kind of turned a page in Harry, Ron and Hermione's development into Young Adults. Through this book there was happiness, love, mystery, tears, sadness, joy, hatred, laughter (Fred and George were GREAT!) and much more.

In my opinion "The Order of the Phoenix". The characters really mature and fight for "Hogwarts". Harry finally becomes a "Leader". Neville finally is starting to come into his own as a person and a wizard. Snape & Malfoy's true colours are really seen. It just keeps getting more intense. "The Half-Blood Prince" is good also.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was the book where Harry seemed the most real and human to me. Also, I love the scene where Fred and George stick it to Umbridge.

I really think that the sixth is the best. In this one you can see how she has evolved as a writer and you can also see how Harry and all the kids have grown. I think is a very mature story written in a very mature way and, if you notice, it doesn't follow her accustomed plot line that you see in the first books.

Altough they all have their merits, I really love Book 3 (prisoner of azkaban) and book 6 (half blood prince). The plot and character development in these books is sublime.

Personal favorite, "Prisoner of Azkaban." Darker than the first two, it still has an unalloyed happy ending. After that, teh body count starts to go up.

The Prisoner of Askaban, although the Half-blood Prince was great too.
