I've suffered with bloating, gas, constipation, diarhea, the feeling that I have to go BM again, even when I've just gone, and mucous in my poop. I hate going into public anymore because I need to make a few trips to the bathroom, most of the time I feel like I have to go, but then nothing. It's embarrasing because my boyfriend picks on me. He alsmost hates going in public with me as much as I do. So my question is,,,would a good bowel cleansing help with the symptoms and what do I use. Is it safe to cleanse your bowels?

It is not really necessary to have a "bowel cleansing." I had IBS as a child and know exactly all the problems your are talking about. You need to increase the amount of fiber in your diet. My doctor placed me on Citrucel powder and I took it three times a day before my meals. Try this and see what happens. You may also need to remove caffeine from your diet. My doctor placed me on strictly water to drink. Also make sure you are not taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aleve, etc.). If you have frequent diarrhea, you also need to make sure that you are staying hydrated well.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition. Have you done research over the internet? I'm pretty sure that you will be able to find good diets for your condition that will help ease your suffering. I know that If you cleanse your bowels, you will get rid of the good bacteria in our colon and further aggravating your diarrhea. Are you allowed to eat yogurt? Yogurt is source of good bacteria for your bowels. Your boyfriend should be more understanding, it's not like you wanted to be this way. Get better and I hope you can find something useful with your research....

Zelnorm..Its $180.00 per month but worth it.Half the times it is associated with psych issues -depression, anxiety etc.
There is high coincidence of history of abuse as a child- sexual or otherwise. May help to get psych eval also.
Eat slowly. avaoid things like cabbage, beans, cheese, spices. Be regular with sleep. Even if it means getting rid of caffein altogather.
Good luck.
Enema occasionally -actually rarely is OK but if you form habit, your bowels won't move without them. Enema is a hell of an addiction to have!

persistent use of bowel cleansers trains the bowel to get used to them and then they become sluggish. good idea, but you could be setting yourself up for another problem. see you doctor that can refer you to a gastroenterologist for an eval (colonoscopy) and then go from there. most of the time, you can be controlled by diet and occasionally meds. stress control is also a +.

Sure, an enema might just be what you need before going out. I imagine you have seen a doctor and the treatments haven't helped so maybe you should try another doctor...they all have different ideas and know different tricks. Best wishes

You should try Fleet Phospho soda.
You can get it at Walgreens. Tastes nasty though. I would recommend taking it with Gatorade instead of water.
I have collitus (not sure if spelled correctly), and the Phospho-soda stuff really cleans you out.
Hope this helps, even if it is gross.

Be very careful, you don't want to set yourself over the top and irritate yourself to the point where you dehydrate and end up in the hospital. Try changing your diet-no spices, no citric acid, no red sacues, no pizza.

Check with your doctor, I had same problem and was told by the doc to take metamucil daily. It has done wonders, no gas, bloating, and now regularity. Ask your doctor.
