Well..it's called, " A Lack of Class". Lip liner is supposed to be used as a tool to add shape to shapeless lips or even make smaller lips look appear bigger. It also helps to keep lipstick in place. Although it should be in the same color family as the lipstick some people with lack of awareness, class, and/or fashion sense think that it is "cute" to wear a darker color liner around their lips that doesn't match their lip color or Heaven forbid black lipliner over heavily greased lips...a HUGE NO NO!!! It does indeed look like a clown..maybe even a mime....I just have one question for these clueless divas who do this....have any of you EVER seen any beautiful model or actress do this????????? I rest my case....

The primary reason lip liner is used is to prevent feathering & bleeding of the lipstick past the lip line.

The liner should match as closely to the lipstick as possible so it is indistinguishable from the lipstick.

Liner also helps to define lips, make uneven lips even, or thin lips fuller. Done correctly it is a powerful tool! Most models you see on magazines have lip liner & many for the purpose of making the lips bigger & appear more plump & voluptuous.

Originally the line should have been almost the same color like a lipstick (only a SHADE darker not five colors darker) and it kept the lipstick from not smudging around your lips. Nowadays it's like a stupid style to wear it so dark but some people are "different".....

Lip liner is supposed to make your lips appear fuller and put the final touches after putting on lipstick. Some women, knowingly or unknowingly, who knows, put on lipliner that's waaaay darker than the lipstick. I think that they think it makes them look like they have fuller lips, but it doesnt. They make themselves look like they should be working at a corner. If you're going to use lipliner ladies, use lipliner that matches your lipstick.

some people that can't put on makeup properly, so they think it's right to wear lip liner darker than their lipstick and when their lipstick wears off, you see the line around their lips

It's supposed to keep your lipstick from smearing from outside your lips, but it's supposed to be subtle and blended in a soft line, not a harsh line with no lip color on the lips.

Well it looks fine when the liner is around the same color as your lipstick, but it looks ridiculous when people wear a completely different color lipstick and lipliner.

It's probably lip liner that's there after their lipstick wore off. Or they might be like those um, trashier women that just wear the lip liner - ick!!

They think it's enhancing their lips, but the truth is it looks like they've been putting more than lip liner around their mouth. LOL.
