Plastics have different additives in them which affect their hardness and impact strength, this is why it is very durable, also the reflectors are very small so not much of the vehicals weight is on it as it passes over the reflector.

Highly flexible mesh of plastic and rubber. Typically they also have a flat "base" that is under the layer of tar, this keeps them in from coming apart. Over time though, these do wear out.

Because its plastic or harder. If you can ride over a matchbox car with a real car and not damage it you can squeese a polyuretahe flat piece. besides its good for the traffic. dyslectic drivers or falling asleep drivers get warned and stay in lane. They started taking them out in Az' not a goood idea. A 2 ton car roled over my foot' and it didn't really hurt also.

they are set into the ground, so your tire does not come in contact with them, or if they are flush with the pavement, then no extra force is exerted on them.
plus plastics can be extremely strong, to the same dexterity of concrete, or more so.

They are made thick plastic. It's pretty durable, especially when it's only being run over by car tires.
