If you are working with a glass surface check the tile adhesive to make sure it will adhere to non-porous surfaces. I found this on ehow.com. You can glue the the tile directly to the mirror if you have a glue that is specifically for non-textured surfaces. Also I would recommend smaller tiles as larger tiles can cause a significant amount of weight and may damage your mirror.

you will need to lay the mirror flat before you do this to avoid sagging tiles and make sure the mirror is strong and of a good thickness, otherwise glue it to a piece of plywood first. clean the area to be covered with alcohol. I would suggest using a tumbled stone rather than ceramic tile because tile is glazed only on the top surface and the reflection in the mirror will be kind of ugly when you see the edge and backside of it. Tumbled stone has the same surface all the way around. Use a good construction adhesive like liquid nail and dont get the glue too close to the edge as you will see that in the reflection too. good luck!

You might want to glue the tiles to a solid colored thin wood or canvas so the reflection of the tile back's won't show. I would glue it to a thin wood, heavy cardboard, or thick canvas and apply it to the wall around the mirrow's edge. You won't ruin the mirrow because some glue will eat through the mirrow surface and then it will all be ugly. You will be able to sit at a table and do the tiling instead of reaching over the counter top. It will also be able to move with you if you need it to or be used in another way later if you change the bathroom decor.

RE:
I want to decorate a bathroom mirror with ceramic tile - is it possible?
I don't want to frame the mirror - I actually want to adhere ceramic tile to the mirrors outer edge.

Absolutely. Be sure to use wall tiles rather than floor tiles. Use a good construction adhesive such as Liquid Nails made for ceramic, or, surprisingly enough, hot glue works quite well for this. Be sure to clean and dry both surfaces well before you begin.

Secure mirror useing clips and2 in screw into studs. No studs found use expaning hollow wall mollys. Wall tile is lighter but whatch the wieght. Use mirror glue and tape up tile to it cures enough to grout.

Most of your adhesives like liquid nail or silicone will lift the silver off the back or the mirror because of the chemicals in them. You might as well toss it.Use mirror mastic its made to adhere to glass or just about to any surface. You can find it at any glass shop or you might find it at a hardware or hobby store. Call around first

Any sort of good adhesive will work, If you can, try to find Loctite Powergrab adhesive: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=53254-133-53254&lpage=none
I've used this for almost everything, including resetting tiles.

Possible, but remember, anything you put on the mirror will show the reflection of the back..... so if you are putting the tile directly onto the mirror, you will see the back....
