Soreness on lip piercings will last up to a full week or sometimes two. it may not be pus, a natural part of the process for healing any wound includes the secretion of a white-yellow fluid (containing dead cells and blood plasma). This fluid will dry and form crust on your jewelry.
You should be washing the outside twice a day with warm water and a liquid antibacterial unscented soap, and avoid putting makeup on the area at all until fully healed!!!
The inside should be cleaned as follows: rinse your mouth for 30-60 seconds with a medical-grade oral rinse (such as Tech 2000 or Biotene) after every meal, after smoking, or after drinking anything except water during the initial healing period (4-6 weeks). If a medical grade oral rinse is not available, the next best thing is to dilute 4 ounces of an oral anticeptic with 4 ounces of water. This will deintensify the antiseptic and prevent it from irritating your piercing. Be careful not to over-clean your piercing, as this will also prevent proper healing. (Signs of over cleaning include a white or yellow looking tongue.).
If you do have an infection and you remove the piercing it will actually take longer to heal. If you are sure it is infected and not normal secretions and swelling then go to your doctor and ask them to prescribe you an antibiotic for the infection but do not remove the jewelry.
Rubbing alcohol irritates piercings and should never be put on a puncture wound, or any open wound of any kind (read the label it says that), a piercing is a puncture wound!

Piercing get infected. It is just part of it. I had my bellybutton, tongue, and nose pierced they all were infected for a while, but not i have no problems. Just give them time. one of your other answers says do not use mouth wash. Mouth wash is good to use especially for lip or tongue rings. It cleans them well. If puss is still coming out, get a hot rag and apply pressure it may hurt, but it will pull some the puss and infection to the surface. Then, just leave it alone, and then if it doesn't look any better go to the doctor.

Honestly I have had a peicing in a much "dirtier" place and the only way to clear the infection and prevent another is to pour rubbing alcohol on it. It will sting and burn just as it is already to some extent I imagine, but it will take care of it in a day or two if you just keep doing it every 2-3 hours. Best wishes

I would take out the earing or call a doctor. When I first got my ears pierced, they got infected and I had to leave them out. Then I got them pierced again, and they didn't get infected. You might want to take them out, and then get it pierced again in about a month or something. If not, keep cleaning them. But if it doesn't heal up or it gets worse, take it out and go see a doctor, but don't wait a long time.

Take it out and go to the doctor to see how much infection has occured. Not everyone can have piercings. You body is probably just a little too sensitive for it.

Since you have taken it out, the skin has started to heal over the infection sealing it in. Please see a doctor. You may not have initially had an infection, it sounds like an allergic reaction to the metal or prep products. It may now, however be infected.

well you never should have taken it out, and never use mouth wash. go get a gallon of distilled water. poor about a cup of salt in there and rinse your mouth everytime you eat, drink, smoke, or whenever you think about it. usually anywhere from 8-10 times a day. if it is still bad in a week, take it out.
