Because all they need is a tiny bit of incentive to go off on a killing spree. And it works doesn't it? Look how so many came out condemning the cartoons in order to pacify the radicals. Every time they go off the deep end, the rest of the world is standing there in horror and fear then finally succumbing to siding with the extremists just so the violence stops. It's a very effective way of silencing the masses and getting what they want. Which is the first step in forceful conversion to Islam.

I don't think it directly reflects their whole belief. Producing an image or likeness of Mohammed is considered disgraceful and sacreligious to Islam. I think that is the major thing they were upset about.

Because the cartoon hits too close to home. They don't have any way of logically criticizing the cartoon because they literally strap bombs to themselves. So instead of being able to say the cartoon is false and satirical, their only recourse is more violence.

the sting in any rebuke is the truth

It does not reflect all muslim's beliefs at all. It is wrong to them because in their religion they're not allowed to create any images of the profit because it is sacriligeous. And to the person who said it was an american who made that cartoon, it wasn't, it was a Danish person.

It doesn't matter whether it reflects their belief - the issue for them is that it is a "sin" to portray any image of Mohammed.

Their culture is different. Their sense of humor is different than ours. I don't know as I would be too thrilled with a cartoon of Jesus carrying a bomb either.

because it's being put forth in a satirical way, completely minimizing all they believe in, i'm guessing. that's not all they believe in, i'm sure, and it probably pisses them off that that's all we know about their religion. a huge percentage of them aren't the violent ones, remember.
