Not really since Yahoo IM uses very little bandwidth. On average the Yahoo IM only uses about .86K while idle. Even if you're on dialup you probably won't notice a difference. If your computer is running slow overall try closing some programs to increase the performace instead.

Typically the many icons near your clock are using a lot of memory too, which again can slow your computer big time. If it's a computer speed issue close those programs. The internet will respond nearly identical with or without Yahoo IM turned on, however.

Here are some tips to speed up your internet.

Go to: tools, internet options then delete temp internet files

Also If you do not "auto run" programs such a yahoo IM you will have more virtual memory

Go to: Start , run , then type the word msconfig ,click on startup, then un-check all messanger service and other programs you do not use

PLEASE NOTE: do not uncheck windows programs as this can cause you problems...rule of thumb only uncheck it if you know what it is. After you uncheck these things click apply and restart your computer

Good Luck

Yes. Everything that uses the internet slows down your speed to the next application. There are programs out there that can control how much usage each program can use at any given time, but in general, the fact is that the more you have running, the slower everything will run.

Probably not. Unless you've got a decrepit old computer, your choke point is almost always internet bandwidth, not computer resources. It's like pumping water from a well. It doesn't help to have a 1000 gallon tank if you're pumping out of a 1/8' pipe.

Sure, having any active program takes CPU usage, close and the CPU can run other things faster.
