W3Schools has the best tutorial for beginning HTML. And, the site's layout is not only easy on the eye, it makes navigation of the site and learning HTML a cinch. They also have plenty of "Tryit" examples and a quiz.

The W3 schools has great HTML, XML, and other tutorials. They also have all kinds of reference pages that come in handy when you are programming in HTML.
