I should be able to get in almost anywhere on merit. So where is the best place for a gay kid to go?

By the way, I don't and won't let my sexual orientation dictate where I go to college, as some of you have commented. However, it is a factor. Like a Black kid who goes to Morehouse, I want to be around my people.

UC Santa Clara or UC Berkley. Bay Area folk are pretty accepting of gay people. Not that there's anything wrong with being gay.

Go to the best college that you can get into.
You may want to avoid religious schools -- but in general you shouldn't let your sexual orientation dictate where you should go.
Urban areas may be more gay-friendly. Boston, New York, San Francisco, Minneapolis and LA are cities that are more gay-friendly than others. All those cities have great schools.

If you'd like to add some social life to your collegiate experience, try the University of Texas at San Antonio. Why? It's only one of three schools in the nation with a gay fraternity. And, its a top-of-the-line institution being part of the University of Texas system.

Why does it matter that you're gay. Why is that the first thing you identify yourself as? Being intelligent is a quality, being gay is a sexual oreintation out of your control. Why is it fluanted like being gay makes you so unique and special. If you're smart and "gay" I say go to a quirkly liberal arts school. i.e. Bates, Brown, etc... or any of Ivy Leagues. I happen to go to one and have visited the others. They are extremely liberal schools filled with smart and very open-minded individuals.

Well if you live in the UK i hear that Briton has a good gay population, try searching for somewhere that has a good "scene" so not only are you accepted but then you can go clubbing, on the pull etc with out fear of prejudice.

Well you can't really go anywhere from what your saying. If you told people you were gay at the college you go to.People would want to kick you out and also most colleges have problems with gay people and wil want to dismiss you from that college. That's the way people are.-

Just cause your gay it shouldn't make a difference. If you going to college it's because you want to better your education! It shouldn't matter.
