Prune, or "pinch" (1/4 inch or so) just above a healthy "node" ~ a pair of healthy leaves with leaf buds growing between leaves & stem.

You can keep salvia from becoming straggly-looking by "pinching" one or two buds lower than the deceased flower-stalk ~ every time you pinch, TWO flower stalks will usually grow in place of the one that was pinched!

Experiment, have FUN ~ you can't really do much wrong when it comes to Salvia!

Cut or pinch the spent flower stalk from the growing plant. The plant will reward you with new shoots and flowers.

right below where the dead buds are, leave all the stalks and leaves and by removing the dead buds you will promote more blooms.
