I'm taking my notebook on vacation with me. All the hotels seem ti have dial up access.. Can I take a phone cord (I've got an internal modem) and use dial up? My ISP offers dial up service. Would I need to contact the service first, etc?
Thanks!

That would defeat the purpose of WiFi.... Think about it....

I don't think so. WiFi is wireless and dial-up needs a phone line. I don't think there's a wireless router that uses a phone line as input, thus there is no way you can get wireless from dial-up.

If you can use a phone cord and hook it up to your computer, then that's not called Wi-Fi anymore.

You will probably have to contact the ISP first if you're not using dial-up on a regular basis. This will usually work from anywhere, but can cost quite a bit if it's not a place that usually gets the service. If the hotel offers dial-up, then you might want to contact the hotel to see what ISP they are using instead of your own ISP.

If your computer has a modem, you can use dial up. I recommend that before you go, you hook the computer to your home phoneline and test the dial up. Then if there is an issue, you have time (and Internet access) to solve the issue before you go.

yup you could use dial up and you might need to call your isp to get the access numbers, username, passwd etc... if you don't have them yet. and if you get signal then go back to wifi

sure, techinally it could be set up, but why as dial up is very slow (low bandwidth)
