I had a conversation with a coworker joking about having a book like this when your child is born. I was curious to see what your answers would be. Thank you for all of your comments. Good or badl

Because people are individuals and 10-18yr olds are people. No one book can cover everything for every situation etc.

While you may be struggling with this time in your child's life, and I have a couple books to recommend at the end, my best advice to you would be stop and think back to what you were like at that age. Don't look back at yourself with your adult eyes and experiences but really try to think back, and get into your teenage mind. If necessary, try to find a picture or yourself around that age to trigger some memories.

In addition, it is not unusual for when your child approaches an age where you had some "issues" that the memories or the angst come back for a visit because perhaps you never dealt with them the right way the first time through.

Some of the biggest mistakes we make as parents is trying to pretend we weren't teens and were "perfect". When we give that impression to our children and it erects a wall, where open communication should be. Sometimes we are ashamed of our teen years and don't want to admit that to our children however, we do our children a disservice when we pretend to have led a different life instead of admitting our feelings of inferiority, confusion, and struggles during our teen years.

For your child. I'd recommend you major on the majors.

For teens its really important that the look in the mirror and like what they see. You don't like the clothing or hair styles, so what? Your parents didn't like yours. You don't like their music, its a rite of passage for your parents to hate your music. You don't like their choice in friends, boyfriends, girlfriends? Ask you parents if they liked all of your friends.

If the behavior that upsets you is a character issue, it needs your attention. If the behavior is superficial, ignore it.

Most importantly, LOVE THEM THROUGH IT!

You don't need a book, your kids need YOU!

Here's a couple of links to books and websites though, Good luck.

Seriously books won't help all people from the age of 10-18 r different and some will be harder to raise then others. It depends on how you've raised them since they were born.If u raise them to respect people and with morals u'll have nothing 2 worry about!but all teens and preteens r diffrent.good luck

because, between the ages 10-18 nothing is exact, they can be themselves, or they can be carried away by friends of other people, thats why there isnt a book for teens

LOL-Because no one has figured out how to handle ALL the issues that come up during that age. It would be nice if someone else would raise them during that time! :)
