Hello. I think that the producers probably felt as though Star and Rosie shouldn't be on the air at the same time and they let Star go. They might have thought the friction would be too great, and the show may have suffered. Even if Star's contract was renewed, I believe she would have left first before Rosie came on the air. A kind of--"I'm going to quit before you fire me" thing, except that the executives beat Star to the punch!

Star was FIRED. When your contract is not renewed, that means you were fired. For Barabara Walters to say that she is upset that Star told the world this fact is a slap in the face to those who watch the show regularly and to those of us who tune in periodically. I mean, Barabara is always wanting the people she interviews to tell the truth, yet for the last few months (after it was announced Rosie would join the view) she stated that Star was welcomed at the View for as long as she wanted. But that was a lie, as Barbara admits that the decision to ax Star was a done deal last fall.

I am not a huge Star Jones fan, however, I think Rosie is so wrong for attacking Star for not discussing how she lost the weight. Star has a right to disclose this information, if she chooses, in her own time. I mean, Rosie pretended to have a huge crush on Tom Cruise for years while doing her own talk show. She only revealed she was a lesbian AFTER she made the decision to end her show. (This also answers the question from two posters who questioned why Barbara would hire Rosie after her show was cancelled...it was not cancelled, Rosie decided to end the show).

At any rate, I applaud Star for trumping ABC and the View producers by annoucing that she was not returning to the show on her own terms. I mean how many of you could know that you are being fired and then told how you would be fired? Please, I would have not only announced that they FIRED me, but would have walked off the stage right after.

I think if anyone should be fired, its that blonde girl. I mean, she is so "one track" opinionated that its so predictable. She never sways from applauding Bush, the "war", or the republican party. Any topic the women discuss, she always takes the conservative road. Please! No one is that ONE-SIDED.

When they didn't renew her contract that's the same as firing in my opinion. Whether it was b/c of Rosie or Star's likability, either way "The View" has lost two major personalities and after nine years I think it will be hard for loyal viewers to adjust to the change. I agree with the person who made the comment about Rosie's own show not doing very well so why should anyone think she'll improve the ratings of The View? I give the show another year and it will be cancelled too.

Star Jones said in an interview yesterday, that her contract was not renewed. She also stated she felt as though she had been fired. I was stunned when I saw Barbara announcing Rosie's hiring. With Rosie's big mouth, it will interesting to see if she can control herself. Rosie hitting on Star? You've gotta be joking, because all you have to do is see Rosie's partner, she's a cutie! I don't think Star is attractive at all, and I just can't see Rosie stepping down and trying to hit on Star.

I did not watch the View yesterday but did today and wish I would have yesterday!

However I did a lot of reading on it this morning after I heard the news.

Almost all articles are saying that her contract would not be renewed come fall and that was known long before the announcement of Rosie was made.

As far as the excuses they are giving for low interest in her dieting and wedding that does not make sense to me.They are saying people lost interest then but are also saying in the same paragraph that those were some of the highest rated shows. Doesn't make sense.

I think it could have been handled differently.
But then again people make choices and she did what she felt she had to do.

In the end I guess it doesn't matter. Her life will go on and so will the show. Things will be different for both. But she has to do what is best for her and I believe she did.

I have watched The View regulary almost since it started. After Barbara Walters announced that Rosie would be replacing Meredith Viera as future co-host, in the back of my mind I was thinking, I can't see Star getting along with Rosie at all. She just doesn't seem like she would even like Rosie. I really think she quit because of Rosie. And good for her.

I personally think Rosie was a very poor choice for this show. Rosie will most likely open her big mouth one day and say something really stupid about something or someone. I think they will eventually lose a lot of long-time viewers. I'd give the show about 1 - 2 years max until it's over for good.

I cant stand it when celebrities use their shows to get on thier sopabox and advertise their sexuality or other politically charged agendas. It really pisses me off. TV shows, entertainment talk shows, and all those dumb awards shows, I feel are not the place for that kind of thing.

I used to really like Rosie Odonnell until she became so bitchy at lots of people, flying off at the mouth about everything and everybody she doesn't like. I will watch the first View show to see what happens when she's on, but then forget it because I dont want to see her again.

I think she knows that Rosie will hit harder and she couldn't deal with it!! I mean Star was blunt and argumentative and didn't seem to care what the others thought, but Rosie would be just as blunt and all!!! I think the leaving was mutual.....firing would be hard to believe at this point, because they should have done that a long time ago!!!

I don't watch the view but I might start now. It is going to be a train wreck. It would have been better if they had Rosie and Star on at the same time, then they should have taken Robbin Quivers from the Howard Stern show in there to mix it up even more! That show is a time bomb waiting to go off! And when it does I hope all the schrapnel goes into Elizabeth H. because I hate that birdbrain *****.

Whatever the reasons... the View is going down after all this shinnanigans.

All I've heard is that there was "negative polls" about Star that lead to the decision to not to renew her contract. It seems like they wanted a "wholesome" cast. Yeah right?!! I guess people have to realize that you are representing and holding the image of those you work with.Look what happened to Kate Moss, she was dropped like a hot potato after her drug escapades. It's all about image and of all people Star should have known this.

NOw I don't like the way they handeled this but hey gotta give STar credit with going out with a bang. There was no other way.

The "new direction" everyone seems to be talking about is that the View is directing their attention to an older women/ mothers from the midwest who have too much time on their hands. This will be the worst daytime show now that Veira and Star left. I think they were wrong to do that. Now it's gonna be sooo boring.. But I dont' care anyways cuz I stopped watching that **** ever since Veira left..

Her contract was not renewed. And it was probably because of Rosie's dislike of her. They are looking for ratings and hope that 'one time show host' Rosie will be able to raise theirs. But did they ever ask themselves this--> If she was so great at keeping ratings high, why was her show cancelled? Hmm, something to think about.
Also, don't think that this is the end. Remember Star is a lawyer, and I'm sure there will be some legal ramifications following her departure. Wanna Bet?

She was fired. After her weight loss she became unpopular with the viewers. She tried to hid the fact that she had gastric by-pass surgery. People were turned off by her wedding and she lost credibility with the viewers. I haven't watched "The View" in a long time but I'd rather see Rosie on there than that bug-eyed, loud-mouthed egomaniac Star.
