The story of the titanic is a very real story , The first book written on the Titanic was A Night To Remember and was written when many of the survivors were still alive and able to tell their story . Many of the survivors are now dead and I believe that on one survives today . When the first book was written many of the eye witnesses stated that they saw the ship rise out of the water and break in half before sinking . The greatest maritime disaster in history , the sinking of the Titanic cause the laws to change concerning the amount of life boats that a ship must carry . Before the Titanic disaster the amount of life boats was determined by the amount of first class passengers . The disaster also changed the class structure in the shipping Industry . There is no class separation as it was in the days before Titanic .

The event did actually take place, the movie was based on the real event however they did add a story line/love story to it. It turned out that the way the ship sank in the movie is not exactly how it really sank.

If you haven't checked it out, you should see Ghosts of the Abyss, it's an awesome documentary on the Titanic, the events of that evening and how it really sank.

The movie Titanic no, there is no proof that there was ever a Rose or Jack Dawson on board. But the sinking was real. If you don't believe it, just dive down to the ship.

The sinking of the titanic is an actual historical event. The other events in the movie are lossely based on survivor first & second hand testimony, what we know about luxury travel in that era and the imaginations of the movie producrs/writers/directors.....
