It is possible, but it takes some very well-trained (EXPENSIVE) people who know how to do this action. You also need some specialized tools to lift all the weight of the entire roof to create more space.

If you have the regular 2X4 joists, as the ceiling framing, then you need to talk to a structual Engineer, before trying to undertake such an adventure.
What your trying to do is put those 2X4s up further, and it can be done, but you have to keep the integrity of the roof, by making sure that the roof trusses are stable and you dont take the 2X4s out, with out having some way to stabilize them, (the trusses), first. you could probably up the 2X4s further up the trusses, and keep the integrity, but if you have any beams on the walls, like a flat roof, then it becomes a bit trickier.
You have to lift the beam off the wall, and then secure it to the trusses, while keeping the integrity of the flat roof intact, so thats why you had better talk to an Engineer, or building contractor who knows his/her stuff!!
I wish you well..

Yeap. Just call in a contractor and he'll be able to advise you; for a price, a very big price.
