I am currently in a band that has only gotten together a couple of times. We tryed out for battle of the bands and didn't make it. But the problem is that they don't put any heart into it. They play the music (one of them is sitting when they do) and I, being the drummer, really want to rock out. They also don't listen to each other when playing, which is nessisary to make a one band sound. What should I do?

Great question. Jam. That's the simple answer. Have them get together and play something slow like a blues in 12/8 time (a la Stevie Ray Vaughn) and pass off solos every 2 or 3 times through the pattern. Everyone will start listening closer, because they will have to ultimately take a solo (sorry bro, i would just lay down the drum beat and not solo). Once everyone is listening more and really FEELING the music that they play, find rock songs that they really understand and feel. Jam everytime before you play and you will have a tight band in no time!

Place an ad in a publication or on myspace and form a band that wants to rock like a mf! Losers are losers and without hope and determination, no band will succeed.

Have the band watch the movie "School of Rock". If they don't get it from that, find a new band. You can't teach passion.

Hey...if you live in the L.A. area, you should quit your band and start one with me. I have been trying to find a drummer with no avail.

Either you need more rehearsal or maybe this is just not a compatible group and you need to keep looking for band mates.

hey.I play in a band too...the first thing is to LISTEN to each other.maybe they are comfortable playing like that...maybe they can't consetrate on the music if they go crazy and do head bangs...i know how u feel.but you better care about music not their style...they will understand it soon...don't worry about it...I have been playing lead guitar for about 9 years and i still can't do head bang and consentrate on my music...good luck bro...rock on

Find new bandmates. Just like in most relationships, you can't make someone change....you can just find a new person.

If they aren't rocking out or listening, find someone who wil
