These scans worked fine till our computer guy put BP Spyware on the computer. I tried to delete it but I don't know if it has uninstalled completely.

You have had a lot of good answers - you need to give a little bit more info - and will need to see if it is a software problem

BUT if install the BP spyware sweeper - you can always tell if the spyware sweeper is a good program or not by visiting their web page - looking a BP web page looks very basic http://www.bpcomp.com/spyware.html - so the program maybe basic and might not be legit

the spyware progs that you have got are they all active? because if they are all active at once then they are all trying to look at the windows reg at the same time - di-activate them

sometimes when the antispyware program comes across a pestky little problem that it will not be able or fix then you might have a problem

take note of the offending problem = the type the probLem in to google

Also disable the windows restore option - IN THE SYSTEM PROPERTIES(SOMETIMES THE RESTORE CAN CONTAIN SPYWARE FILES THAT STORE THE INFO ON THIS AREA)

THEN DO A SCAN - AFTERWARDS RE-ENABLE THE SYSTEM ##

CUSTOMER TO TRY

It definitley sounds like a software conflict. Can you do a system restore back to the date he installed the BP software? Call him and tell him he messed up your computer, maybe he'll get scared and fix it for free. Because most of those independent computer repair guys don't have insurance to cover being sued. You could take him to small claims court if he doesn't fix what he broke. Always keep receipts too related to jobs like that. Umm. Try uninstalling all of the spyware programs and then reinstalling only the ones you want if all else fails. Maybe a newer version of the spyware programs will overwrite any conflicting files getting in the way. You could always contact the Spybot people and ask them what they think about the situation. Maybe they already know what to do. Good luck. If you live on Long Island, NY then I could be your new computer guy. lol.

I use Norton. Sometimes when I run the scan, quite a few files are typically identified as "serious threats." Of course, I think I want all of them removed. Immediately afterward, some of these antivirus platforms no longer run efficiently because some of the threats identified were files essential to the running of some their programs. So the programs stop mid-scan. And at times I have screwed up other games and programs due to possible overkill using Norton. I have never used BP Spyware.

what he has done is put a program on(bt spyware),that conflicts with your other security programs
i dont know why he installed any more anti-spy programs when you have spybot and adaware allready
if you know where this guy is ,tell him to contact me and explain why he had to add more antispyware programs on your system,it was,nt needed
i would uninstall all of your security software programs and re-install them, making sure you update them
with ref to your bt spyware uninstalation, just do a search using the search utility in windows and look for anything under bt spyware, then go edit>select all>file>delete
this should clear all offending files,
the main problem is probally norton as it conflicts with so many other programs, even service pack 2,but microsoft brought out a update to fix this
try using a evaluation version of f\secure avalible from http://esd.element5.com/demoreg.html?productid=300042690&languageid=1,this will last for 6 months and is just as good,if not better than norton
i use f-secure and i also use spybot and adaware, and have no problems ,norton takes up too much system resources, and slows the start-up process....bin it
as for any bt products,i use bt broadband, and thats were it stops,i woudnt use any security software supplied by bt,stick with the 3 (f-secure,spybot,adaware)and you will be fine
good luck

You have too many programs doing the same thing. Spybot and Adaware have to run in specific order and Norton gets most everything now anyway. I would limit myself to Norton and Adaware and go with that. Make sure to have all the most recent updates too.

which could help you isolate the reason, open job manager (proper-click on your taskbar on the bottom and decide job manager) and watch your processor and reminiscence utilization. interior job manager, click the performance tab. the right line of eco-friendly & black graphs teach how a lot of your processor is getting used. the second one line of graphs teach how a lot reminiscence is getting used. Watch both one among those graphs as your workstation starts to sluggish. be conscious which of those, if both, are extreme. that is fantastic on your processor to spike as a lot as 70%, 80%, even 100% at times, besides the undeniable fact that it shouldn't stay there. If the processor utilization continues to be way up, you've were given a project with a application overworking your processor. As for reminiscence, a ordinary workstation on the instantaneous merely operating with needed startup information and some antivirus application operating, could use between 225 and 250MBs of reminiscence. in case your's is operating critically larger, then there's a project right here. also, verify lower than the fairway graphs and to the right contained in the field categorized actual reminiscence. the total line shows you the way a lot reminiscence you've put in. Mine says 1047276, that's extra or less 1GB (1047 megabytes and adjust). verify what your's is. in case your reminiscence utilization equals or exceeds the total quantity of reminiscence put in on your workstation, it really is a project. if that's the case, you're able to look at what's operating and be conscious what courses you could on the brink of unlock reminiscence. My suggestion is that your project isn't unavoidably undercover agent ware/spyware operating. it would nicely be led to by utilizing too many "strong" courses operating. Run too many courses, and your workstation is locking up on you. until eventually you in many circumstances computer screen and cleanup your operating courses, you'll maximum in all probability discover many courses operating, like Java Updater, Quicktime, iPod Helper, Adobe Acrobat % launch, and many extra courses that you don't desire operating each and every of the time. submit back in case you imagine this can be your project.

Norton actually conflicts with some of the programs you have installed...you are lucky it did not crash your system altogether...as it did with me...although Norton is an excellent program, that is the downside to it.....if you have XP just go to an earlier start date and run system restore to the date before you had the problem
