You don't love him, you like him. Just start talking to him. Be friends first, then decide if you still like him or not and take it from there.

You can't love someone you've never spoken a word to. You may be infatuated, but that isn't love. Guys don't want to hear that stuff right off the bat. It's a great way to chase him away. Be a little more mature. Get to know him before you make such enormous decisions.

I'm a guy, and a straight forward answer that doesn't make him crap his pants is great. (normally people say they hate me)
But first stop him at his locker or somewhere that someone isn't brown-nosing or spying. And start out saying hi, and then say you gotta "talk"to him and then say you like him, and then add to that saying you like ALOT.
Scenario:
you: "hi [guy]"
[guy]: "Oh! hey [you]"
you: "I need to tell you something..."
[guy]: "ok, what is it?"
you: "Well for a while know, I had a crush on you, and I like you, like you alot...."
Give him the small cute thing and kinda bow your head when you say you like him alot.

try to befriend him via a common friend. if thats not possible try n strike up a friendship casually(eg. compliment him on something casully while he's passing you).
then u can know him better n if u still like him, tell him so.
