Most of the movies get people to read the book.
I watched IT. then read the book.
The stand movie sucked green apples. The book was much better. I have read a lot of books just so I could find out how close they were

It's amazing how short our attention spans are now...I love books...but I think something happens between the ages of 5 and 12....because at age 5 parents come into the bookstore I work at and buy picture books by the metric ton because their kids love to read...and by age 12 they're "reluctant readers". That's why movies based on books are so popular...
On the other hand...sometimes they turn bad books into movies too...like "Starship Troopers"...I know it's a "SF classic" but I just didn't get it. Of course the movie was bad too, so maybe the point is that it's exceptionally rare to make a good movie out of a book period.

To heck with that my son is almost 8yrs old and he rather read the book a few times before watching the movie *L* on the downside he cant read the Harry Potter books on his own and it takes me FOREVER to read them to him first and he always want to reread them as soon as I'm finished with them and then once he's watched the movie he wants me to read them again. hahaha I think I know them all off by heart by now. Anyways parents need to motivate their children to read if you just let them go to the movies instead of reading the book first of course they are not going to read but if you some how find a way to get them to read the book first they will be really surprised at the difference between the books and the movies and most of the time they'll find the book is better, because they usually have to leave a lot of the book out of the movie.

exactly...i remember going to the library in the summer and checking out books with my mom to read while i was out of school. people are lazy now and they'd rather have the 'cliffnotes' than spend a little time being absorbed in another world.

They still haven't made a movie of my favourite novel - "The Chrysalids", by John Wyndham - because i don't think it *can* be filmed. But now that i've said that, someone will likely go out and try.....

You nailed it. People are lazy and don't read. They all need visual stimuli to hold their interest. No wonder America is getting dumbed down.
