I use smileys all the time. :D
If you want actual pictures, though, it gets a bit more complicated. A lot of people will start chatting more on here just because they see the friendly smileys when Yahoo! Answers is really just a question and answer site.
Of course, if you click on a person's name or avatar, many of them have Yahoo! Messenger so you can use smileys there, or you can get their email address to email them.
Anyhow, here are two ways to send in your suggestion: (1) the "Tell us what you think" link at the bottom of the page or (2) the user forum linked to the upper right. (If you go to the forum, try doing a search for "smiley" first to see what others have already said.)

I hope one day they will. I agree with you we need express emotions and smileys are a good way to show emotions.
