There are many reasons to donate money. Andrew Carnagey gave about 80% of his fortune back to the community after he became rich in the 19th century. He was a poor scottish immigrant that became rich and thus remembered where he came from and gave back. He was irritated by other millionaires that did not follow his lead because he believed in the community. Warren Buffet might believe the same beliefs. Then again mass donations of money are great tax write offs.

Find out tonight on Charlie Rose on PBS. Tonight is the final part in a three part series about Warren Buffet, and the episode will focus on Warren's donation. Try to catch the other two episodes to learn more about Warren, and some of his motivations may be revealed to you. Enjoy!

He wanted to screw anyone who would get his inheritance. Plus his name will be known for a long time. If a cure for cancer comes from his donation, he'll be known as that one who made it possible.

because he has so much that 80% won't even hurt what he has it's only going to bring him more because he is giving from his heart and not looking for nothing in return. And because he can.

Maybe he is too greedy to leave it to his loved ones and he is doing it to spite them. but it is for good causes so I cannot judge him and it is his money to do with as he wants.
