It's hard to say without knowing the exact situation...and why your daughter is not with you. One of my best friends is in a similar situation right now. She has been taking care of her niece for seven months. The mom has substance abuse issues, no job and does not have a place of her own and bounces from house to house. My friend insisted to her sister that her daughter come to live with her to give her a stable home environment...go to school, etc. Since that time, the mom has shown no attempt at getting her act together, so her daughter to come home with her. The family is beginning to talk of adoption now.

I don't know your situation. If your daughter is with your mother in law and you want her back with you. Do whatever you have to to get yourself into a more stable situation (I'm assuming because you said that "she is in a stable environment" that you are not, otherwise she would be with you). Work hard to prove to them and whoever else that you are willing to do anything to have your daughter back. Courts do not want to place children with anyone other than the parent, unless it is best for the child and the parent is incapable of caring sufficiently for the child. Prove everyone wrong. Show them how much you are willing to do for her and get her back.

I'm a HUGE advocate of children and to me, no matter what, if the child is safer, better off and happier in a better environment, than that's what the child deserves regardless of who the parent is. To me, a child's environment is what raises them. If he/she is in a dysfunctional environment, they don't deserve that.

I don't understand how anyone other than the mother has temporary guardianship when they're not the parent if you've done nothing wrong? How does that happen?

You didn't happen to mention why you would lose your parental rights. You must be doing something that makes your mother in law feel your not a good mother. Think of your children , what is best for them.

There is a reason why she wants to adopt your daughter. What have you done to mistreat your little girl? Obviously something if she has temporary guardianship. Fix the problem.

If your mother in law decides to file for permanent custody, and subsequent adoption, be prepared to prove to a court that you are a fit mother. she will come prepared to prove that you're not - it would be the only way she could win.

Why is she raising your daughter? It's not just giving birth to someone that makes you "Mom", it raising them and being there for them. If you feel that it is an unsafe place for you daughter, then go get her. I think there is more to this then you are letting on.

I agree with answer # 1. Why don't you have her... Maybe your the mental one... Take a look at your self before you start saying other people are unfit to take care of her!!!

No, I hear that people come back on you to collect life insurance. Some one tried this on me after stealing one of my kids.
