My husband and I plan to start trying to have a baby in less than a year, we don’t have any children now.

I was looking on Craigslist and I found a crib with a dresser/changing table combo for $400 used. The crib was bought from Babies R Us for $550 and the changing table/dresser was $280. So I bought it and saved $430 + taxes.

I have the crib broken down and put in my walk-in closet along with the dresser. I felt embarrassed when I told the people (who were selling the crib) that I was pregnant yet, but how could I not buy it when it was exactly what I wanted?

Am I a weirdo?

Hey you're not a weirdo. It's just that your desire to become a mommy is strong - and hey, you don'thave to fight the urge either. It's an inherent instinct in all women, some are more attuned to it than others. Besides, it was a good deal. Baby items are so expensive nowadays, it's always a steal to find such good bargains. So I totally understand you.

Goodluck with the ttc (trying to conceive)! I'm throwing lots of baby dusts your way!

No you are not weird every female is that way and if they are not they are the weirdos. I don't have kids yet and I have a crib and the dresser/changing table combo plus some baby blankets and clothes. I got these from my sisters and I wouldn't care if I would have had to buy them. You are planning on having a baby in the near future and you are just excited about the concept of starting your family and hey most people don't have their crib till after the baby arrives you are just ahead of the game.

Well if you know that you and your husband are going to have children and you liked the dresser and stuff I don't see anything wrong with it. I look at baby clothes all the time. My cousin even bought a little girls dress on a cruise just because she thought that it was cute and three monthes later she found out she was pregnant. So there you go. Maybe it will bring you luck.

I've been fighting the urge to shop for baby furniture (not necessarily to buy, mind you, but to see what I like) because I plan to start trying to get pregnant in 6 months or so. But I don't want to get too attached to the whole process in case I have a hard time conceiving... I think it would make the stress of it all that much worse. So... I'm not going to do it.

But it sounds like you got a good deal and I hope you get to use it in the next year or two.

Not weird at all. I work at a Toys R Us and we have couples come in to register for their baby shower and can't find items they saw in the past a loved. If you really like something then get it when you can. Most products go through seasonal cycles and either change appearance and pattern, or are pulled from the line completely.

So I think you made a great decision to buy all the items at such a great price. When you see a deal like that NEVER let is go to waste.

No, but some superstitious people might say that it's not good to do that. A lot of people think it's weird to buy stuff for a baby before it's born (like even baby showers), at least in my culture. I guess because of complications that arise such as miscarriages, stillbirths, etc. (Happened to my sister).

But I don't agree with all that bs, I think you made a heck of a deal and wise shopping decision. Good luck and early congrats on the start of your family!

I think you are smart to get the models you want used while you have the opportunity. Just leave the stuff tucked away and don't fixate on it while you are trying to get pregnant. I don't recommend setting up a nursery until you are 4+ months along. Like someone else said, nothing sucks like looking at a bunch of baby stuff when you are trying to get pregnant (or if, God forbid, you lose a baby).

Best wishes to you for a happy and healthy family!

nicely i'd wait to purchase assorted the tremendous stuff. i'd make a itemizing of the things you want maximum and then sign up after turning out to be pregnant that way you will see that what people deliver for your infant bathe which will ward off money. yet anybody is diverse, in case you sense the favor to bypass ahead and commence paying for stuff, then accomplish that who cares what anybody else thinks, a minimum of your attempting to practice your self.
