I was paid double time rather than regular time on my pay checks. Essentially I was paid double. I intended to report the error however the company noticed it before I reported it. So I was supended from work about two days. I believe this is illegal because in their employee handbook nor in any other document says anything about this. There is no reference to "discrepancies in pay" being illegal, there is no reference to a time line of reporting and there is no reference as to what disciplinary action should be taken if it occurs.

Was their action illegal, what should I do now? Should I get a lawyer involved?

You knew what you were owed. You had a moral and ethical responsibility to report it at once. They had every right to suspend you. I'm surprised they didn't fire you for dishonesty.

You've blown your credibility with this employer. Don't expect any future advancement there.

A suspension was a very light penalty, you got off lucky. Learn from the lesson. Even if you don't get caught what you did was still wrong.

Joe Bystander here - no legal expertise at all.

But I think the company is on thin ice by suspending you.

But I also think you really didn't rush to report the error either.

Bottom line - if you like the job, get over it and move on.

I'm not certain what your responsibility legally is in regards to overpayment on your pay check and it may in fact depend on where you are, but I see it the same as getting too much change back when you go grocery shopping. Call a lawyer.

so you get a pay check for twice what you'd normally get for a weeks pay, and then suspended for two days? altogether you are still in the lead with three days extra pay. I wouldn't convict them of anything as a jury member that's for sure.

it's called theft. they have the right. You should have reported it as soon as you looked at your check.

There's a work bureau or workforce you should call...they should be able to answer all of your questions....you would have to look it up according to your state....
