door. My apartment is very high crime and I presume that most of it is random crimes of opportunity. However when I was robbed , my next door neighbor was standing outside watching. As I waked across the parking lot he was looking at me and then another guy came frombefhind a care and held a gun to me. I gave the guy my purse and he ran away and as I went to my door the guy just kinda grinned at me and didn't have a normal reaction I would think you would have if you seen a crime. The police tried to ask him questions (I know he saw the guy because I could even describe him somewhat) and he said "no english" and closed his door. I know my neighbors didn't like me because I am white (everyone here seems to be Central America) and the woman would get mad when I would ask her to let me get by on the stairs (she used to sit all day on the stairs). They moved a month after the incident. I have always thought it was a planned job though and it kinda creeps me out.

I don't think the neighbors were in any scam or anything as they weren't exactly successful (7 adults and a baby living in one bedroom) , I just think they helped the guy who did it (I am pretty sure the guy was associated with them and i think he still lives in the next building but I can't prove anything) He only got one dollar , it was more the idea that I got robbed which scared me. I was coming home from work and never carried anything in my purse except coffee money and bus pass as I never carry my credit cards or wallet to work.

A scary experience. I was once assaulted on the street but the guy didn't have a gun. A gun would have been more frightening. There's no way to know if your neighbor was in on the theft, but he obviously didn't like you, maybe because you're white and he wasn't, if he was treating it like a joke. A pity. I hope you can move out of there.

Under those circumstances you may have been set up by them. But in high crime areas, it could have been a robbery where the neighbor just happen to be there, and doesn't like you so he wasn't going to help you. He probably smiled thinking to himself you deserved it. You'll probably never really know the answer. There are lots of reasons people don't cooperate with the police, scared, don't want to help the victim, don't want to get involved, etc. But I would assume he either really hates you or he set you up. I'm glad they moved away from you. Stay safe.

Anyone would automaticly think that is was a random incident with it being a high-crime area but further reading of your information, I would have to say definitely planned. Possibly incident was planned for the money or to scare you into moving. Alot of areas do not want people of different cultures and races living there. Did you know the peoples names? It could possibly also be a scam they play everywhere they go.

I don't know if it was necessarily planned. In the hispanic communities near me, many of the residents won't speak to the police for a number of reasons: Fear of retaliation and illegal immigrant status are two big ones. Or perhaps even if they weren't in on it, they were just pleased to see that crime happens to white people as well, sort of a "that'll teach ya" statement. The police should have come back with a spanish speaking officer to talk to him.
