A "best" friend is the one that know everything about you and still loves you. Who stands by you through thick and thin. Who you know you could go to no matter what the problem was, and be received with open arms and a caring heart.
I have two best friends.
One is my husband.
The other is a friend from highschool, we have been "best friends" for 34 years, even though we live on oposite sides of the continent.

I have a few best friends, two whom i am closest with are more like sisters than anything else. But I have actually been asking myself how to really describe what they are to me because I am in a wedding for one of them soon and I have to give a speech I really want to convey to all what having them in my life means. I came to the conclusion that they have the qualities of what Iwant in my partner except their is no sexual qualities of course, and the two of them are people I strive to be like at times. we share and we cry and we get angry but through it all we will always hold eachother up when it gets to tough. I love my best friends with a love that only the closests people in your life are privalidged to have. They are my family and are treated as such by my real family as well as my husband and kids. Best friends is just a label for someone who is part of your family, but not really. Hope this helps.

If you have other friends, a best friend is the one you would most like to spend time with for any number of reasons.

All my friends are the people I chosen to have in my life male/female. They are the people I am always going to be there for and who will always be there for me. What really makes it cool is we all know that we don't have to talk everyday, we just know that we are there for each other, support each other, opinions mean the world to each other. Good friendship is about understanding, trust, being non judgmental at the right moments, and then kicking them in the a** when they need it. It isn't all about common interests its about common souls and I truly I think that all my friends are my soul mates! That is what true friends are all about to me.

I dont think you will have just one best friend. And maybe you will have a best friend for a certain situation. Dont you have one friend that you can talk to about anything more than you can talk to your other buds. Or dont you have one person that you like to go shopping with more than others. I think it is important to have close friends but remember that you dont need to have just one best friend. Just keep you friends close to you and cherish them But yes I think best friends do exist.

qualities in a friend;loyal,caring,understanding rather than judgmental,secretive,trustworthy,reliable and dependable among others.
best friend;does more of the above to you than any other friend you have and vice versa most of the times.
