I don't really know that much about the Dutch. Sure, they have an incredible history of commerce and science. They have also made great contributions to the arts.

Historically, the Dutch have on occasion made what we now would consider errors, for example, in the Congo. And, their record in WWII is mixed as many Dutch resisted the Nazis even as other Dutch collaborated with them. The result is the Jewish population of the Netherlands was reduced by 75% by the war's end, and it has never fully recovered. These examples and other that could be offered appear to be more the exception than the rule in Dutch history.

Nonetheless, the Dutch have demonstrated quite a practical approach to most social and political issues, and are world renowned for their openess and tolerence of different lifestyles.

In truth, the only Dutch person I know is my son-in-law, who is perhaps the most arrogant, rude, self-righteous, and uneducated person that I know. Yet, every country has its share of unpleasant persons; so the only certain way to gain an understanding of the Dutch would be to live among them. Given what I know about their arts, culture, and history, I am confident that they are much finer people than my son-in-law will ever hope to become.

My associations are that the Dutch are an enlightened and quite intellectual bunch. I think of beautiful tulips, delicious cheeses, blue Delft, Old Masters and the excitement and freedom of Amsterdam. I guess the only possible negative thought would be to do with the geographical flatness of the country, but that it just because I was brought up in Ireland and Devon and both were hilly.

Good guys as rule! A very pleasant bunch of easy going and nice guys.I've had the pleasure of working with quite a few of your countrymen and I,ve liked 'em all, except for one scumbag from Enschady (apologies for the terrible spelling).Being on the east coast of Scotland,we,ve had a lot of historical contact with the Dutch even as far as having Dutch terminology enter into the local dialect eg "keek" possibly from "Kijk" meaning to watch, look or peek at; "claithin", clothing,"kleek" or "kluik", a hook, curved claw or claw in general,"shiff",ship and "fisc",fish.Other examples exist, but I cant recall them all just now.Hope that this of some use to you!

Pleasant on the whole, and when I was with 2 dutch people once they didn't say one word in dutch and I think that it is very polite.

I think they also put the english to shame on how good they are at languages.

I love the way you embrace the orange too.

my wife and I want to move to Amsterdam, I've been there 9 times and my wife and I went last year for our honeymoon. It's the greatest city in the world along with Stockholm. The people are so great and the city is a model by which others should be built.

I'm ashamed to be saying this, but I actually don't have an opinion on people from that nation because I do not know much about it. I guess that's something I can educate myself on today!
