Good question - I couldn't get msn messenger to work over LAN.

use the Run... command in your start menu then type in:

net send* followed by your message

If you were to say "hello", it would look like this: net send* hello

the * sends the message to all users on the network (mshome e.t.c.). Alternatively - use " " quotation marks either end of a computer name on the LAN connection (you can find this out by looking at 'View workgroup computers').

Look at: http://www.computerhope.com/nethlp.htm#03 for any more info.

If you are using Windows, you should be able to go to Start, Run and then type in the following netsend {computer login or name} {message} and press enter. At least that is how we do it at work :)
