I've seen several answers lately where people are saying that Homosexuality and Autism are related some how. Can this be true? I know autism & ADD have many common characteristics, but have not heard this one until recently.

BLUEOWLBOY...
Thanks for your answer, but I do have to correct you. The jury is still out on the autism and mercury connection. I hear about it almost every day on TV and the news paper. That's why the phamacudical companies complied with the CDC and took it out of vaccinations. Laws have been passed because of it, and the fish warning for pregnant women are getting stronger all the time. Last I heard, they are now saying a pregnant woman should only have a few oz of fish a month because of the mecrury content. You are incorrect with that part of your statement

There has been a lot of research done lately on this topic. If I remember correctly there is study going on right now at Duke University.

One thing I have found very interesting besides the Mercury debate is just simple statistics. Autism is 4 times more likely in Boys than girls. Homosexuality is four times more likely in boys than girls. A small percentage of people have autism...A small percentage of people are gay. There is a LARGE percentage of Autistic people who are gay...like 90% of high functioning adults.

Go to any adult autism message board and read. It is very interesting. One more fact I'd like to share...I have done extensive research on Autism. I have met MANY parents of Autistic teens. Over 1/2 of these parents also have a gay child/teen, and about 2/3 say their autistic child has homosexually tendencies. I feel there is a very strong connection, and I think a lot of it has to do with Mercury exposure.

Oh and BTW, 75% of autistic people are LEFT handed

okay, I know that homosexual activist are eager to win people over to their side but this is too low. To start spreading propaganda that autism and homosexuality may share a common genetic cause is reprehensible. Let me correct some of the poor logic and misinformation here.
First the jury is still out on the mercury debate because the recent test were intended to show no link before they were ever done. Epidemiological studies will not find the answers. These studies found exactly what they were intended to find nothing.
Second, there has never been any evidence for a homosexual gene. I have yet to see a brain scan that could identify the defective or damaged part of the brain in homosexuals. Homosexuals do not have any structural difference in their brain. Autistics do. It is documented fact, not heresay.
Third, if as many suggest, homosexuality is a choice. Then it would make sense that individuals with altered mental functions may also engage in this as a deviant behavior.
Autism severely affects the persons ability to make normal social relationships. When normal social relationships are not made, other types of relationships(read abnormal) will develop.
In the past I've seen the activist hitch their wagon to the black civil rights struggle. Now to try and get a free ride at the expense of severely disabled people is beyond contempt.

The only questioning of it I've seen is by someone who claims to have one autistic child and one gay child. I'm not saying it's not the case, merely that is what has been said.

The thrust of it seemed to be about mercury content, which has been disproven as a factor in autism. Autism is the result of growth in the womb. No one knows how homosexuality originates yet, although there are many indicators of genetic and hormonal components which would not be influenced by mercury.

People will often look for any explanation or hope for a "cause" because they may often blame themselves if they think there is a genetic cause. Of course, the flip side of "cause" is "prevention," which is part of the agenda of many people.

There seems to be a greater connection between homosexuality and left-handedness. From the second link (NOTE: the website is anti-gay):

Analyzing a number of studies, their paper concludes that male homosexuals are about one third (31%) more likely than heterosexuals to be left-handed (2), while lesbians are almost twice as likely (91%) to be left-handed as heterosexual women.
