VoIP, allows you to make phonecalls to anyone, local line or mobile etc. using your internet connection. you will need to have a voice enabled internet modem or you can purchase a VoIP phone adapter to attach to a router. then you will need a subscription to a VoIP provider, you have to check if your country have. usually its cheap, and good thing about this is if you bring the adapter overseas, people can still contact you on the same number as long as you are hook onto the internet. unlike local lines, you cannot bring it overseas. and unlike mobile phone, you don incur much on international call rates.

and yes, you need at least a broadband for this to work.
