5 years ago he had the vasectomy... the reversals success rate would still be quite high! be prepared to POSSIBLY wait a few YEARS to see if the reversal was a true success. scar builds up... there are complications. you could check with an endocronologist (fertility specialist) about the possibilities of "sperm asperation" that is when they retrieve the sperm through the testicles at a urologists office... BUT, your husband's body could have built up an immune system that attacks and kills the sperm while in the testicles making the asperation method produce LESS live sperm than needed for artificial insemination methods... meaning that you would be looking at invitro fertilization. each cycle of artificial insemination with your husband's specimen would cost ABOUT $750 per month (two inseminations each cycle). invitro fertilization with your husband's specimens would cost ABOUT $5,000 per month (one implant each cycle). they implant 2 fertilized eggs each month into healthy women and up to 4 eggs in high risk women. START out by seeing a specialist and getting all of the options and testing out of the way... take the doctor's advice on which route to start with! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! vasectomy reversal is roughly $5,000...

A friend of mine had her tubes tied, but when she remarried she and her husband decided to have another child. She reversed the proceedure, but was told it could take a long time to conceive. It took her 10 years.
I suggest talking to a doctor who does these kinds of procedures. They could probably give you an idea as to how long getting pregnant again might take.
Also, weighing the costs of both procedures. Would he want to have a vacectomy when the baby was born? If so, why undo the vacectomy? Maybe doing sperm extraction. A lot to think about. Good luck.

We are in the same boat. We only want 1 more child, but are planning a reversal. Its about $5,000-10,000. I'm not sure about extraction costs. But if you want more than 1, I suggest a reversal. For us its the easier method of the two. I'd rather have lots of fun making a baby, then take the chance of having multiples. And its our way of making sure this should be our family size. If the reversal fails, we'll not seek other options.

Reversal is cheaper, between $4000-$10000 depending the the availablility of facilities in your area. Sperm extraction runs $700, but the IVF course that goes with it costs $10000-$20000. Our urologist warned us away from sperm extraction cause it supposedly hurts like hell and has to be repeated for each IVF course. The vasectomy reversal was 3 hrs surgery and 4 days on vocodine.

You should try a spermal extraction. It's so much easier compared to reversed vasectomy.

Reversing a vasectomy can lead to a greater chance of defective genes in the sperm due to damage.

That said, he can have the reversal and do everything in his power to be as healthy as possible to make his sperm as healthy as possible. You might even consider IVF so that the only the healthiest sperm are used to fertilize your eggs.

You could have spermal extraction or have the process reversed.
Good Luck
