Try to get as much rest as you can, and understand that it will pass - probably by the 12th week.

If you have the type of job where you can go to a spare office (someone out on vacation, i.e.) and your boss will let you, use your lunch hour to nap. If not, go to your car and nap with the A/C on. I was very fortunate that my boss let me use our paralegal's office to nap in every day (she was on an extended vacation that lasted most of my first trimester). Make SURE you get enough sleep at night. If you just HAVE to watch some show at 10:00 p.m., forget trying to stay up and watch it. TiVo it or record it on your VCR and watch it on the weekends. If you normally get up early in the a.m. to fart around online, drink your coffee, read the paper, don't. That extra 30 minutes sleep could do you wonders.

Other than this, all I can tell you is generally by the second trimester, this tiredness goes away and it'll be the exact opposite...you'll have your energy back and will be feeling much better. Hang in there...you don't have long to go!

Any books or doctors will tell you that the first trimester of pregnancy will literally knock you out. Think about it, your body is doing so much work producing that little bundle of joy! Not that it is any consolation to Mom who is exhausted. The best things to do would be to take your prenatal vitamins and take regular naps (no longer than 30minutes) or you'll run into grogginess. This can even be done on your lunch break, if you work. Don't rely on sugar or especially caffeine b/c they will give you a rebound effect...great for the time but much worse after it wears off.
Listen to your body and heed its advice...take it easy and take comfort in knowing that the "honeymoon phase" of your pregnancy is on it's way...the second trimester...when everything is wonderful! You'll start showing and you'll have a renewed sense of energy! Congrats!

Prenatal vitamins should help a little. Also you can have a little bit of caffine when you are pregnant - about 4 cokes a day or 3 cups of coffee. Try of course not to overdue it - I am 6 weeks along with my second and Im suffereing right along with you. Don't worry though it will all be better in about 4 weeks.....also try walking and getting a little exercise as gueling as that sounds. It will raise your energy level. If you can take naps (I know I can't cause im at work all day) - Good luck and hang in there.....

i so feel your pain right now. I fall asleep mid-typing an e-mail these days and it's so annoying. As I have not told my boss yet, it has been noticed that my work performance has fallen. What I have done in the past week (it works somewhat) is when you feel that sleepy wave hit you, stand up, walk around, get a glass of icy cold water. If you are at home, take advantage and just go to sleep. If you are working during your pregnancy, inform HR. This way, you don't have to actually tell your boss, but you can now be treated with some consideration because of your "disability" without everyone needing to know just yet.

I had the same problem, I would fall asleep all the time I was so tired. The best I can say is sleep whenever you get a chance and take prenatal vitamins to help give you some energy. The tiredness will go away by the 2nd trimester.

Try to take naps or go to bed much earlier than you are use to. I know how tired you feel, been there three times. Are you taking your vitamins? Are you eating healthy? (that's if you are keeping anything down) This stage should pass in a few weeks. Look at this way,it's practice for when you are up all night with a crying baby!

Take a nap every day and try exercise. I drag myself to the gym and usually feel more energized after a light to moderate workout. I'm 14 weeks now and just starting to get out of the tired phase. Congrats and good luck!

Prenatal vitamins are some help, but my dr had to give me additional iron to help. I also took naps whenever I needed. Your body is doing a lot of work right now, and in the first trimester your body does the most work. It gets better, I promise. You might have to struggle through it for another month or so. But nap - you deserve it!!

Oh boy, does THAT sound familar. I was tired too in the beginning. I also had weakspells here and there.

Are you keeping up with your prenatal vitamins? That's very important and did help me.

Also, talk to your doctor. It could be your blood sugar or anemia. Talk to them to rule that out.

Be sure and take your prenatal vitamins. Go to bed early, take naps if possible. I can remember collapsing on the couch every afternoon after work and napping. Once you pass your first trimester, it should ease up a little. Good luck...hang in there!
