I got a letter and a check in the mailtelling me to send 2,100 of the 2,300 to them for taxes and use the rest to pay the western union fee. It didn't ask for personal info. and it sounded legit because I had been on-line entering drawings. It felt wrong at the time but we are so broke. We thought if it didn't ask for info and we weren't sending our money it was ok. It wasn't till after I sent it and got home I started feeling real bad but they had already collected the money. I desperatly need to get this money back. We live in a small town and know EVERYONE at the bank besides the fact that we can't begin to pay this we are already 60,000 in debt not counting our house we will probly end up loosing. Please someone help me!!!

Lemme guess: you sent money to Nigerian royalty trying to transfer their fortune to an American bank as well?

You actually gave away your home address to a complete stranger on the internet that you *knew* wasn't in your own country and thus not held accountable to the same laws as you? The money is gone. You deserve everything you got plus more.

Unfortunately I do not think you will be able to retrieve your money. The add that was used to send you the information was probably set up for just that and you cannot trace it. The bank account was probably opened with an alias that was closed as soon as they received your money. If you know which bank you sent the money to, you can contact them and if the account was opened in person, at least they will have an image of whoever opened it. It is sad what happened to you but there are so many of these people out there.

The newest scam is sending you random pages from companies and asking you to renew your information on that website. The website will probably be from a company you either have an account with or have some form of bussiness with them, but offcourse that particular one is false. Never give your information in that manner. It is always a scam.

I hope things work out for you in the end.

If it were a US scam, you might stand a chance of getting some of your money back, but international laws are difficult to navigate. With the types of resources at normal people's disposal, the chances are very, very slim. Contact your local police and bring them any and all information that you have on this. They will be able to help you in whatever ways are possible. This happens to a lot of people, and most(if not all) never see their money again.

I had something very similar happen. I was sent a check that LOOKED LEGIT. I even called the bank that the check was drawn on. The scam was from Canada and said I had won a poetry contest. I checked with local authorities and was informed not to give these people any info because as soon as I told them any banking deposit info of mine they would cancel the check and clean out my account on top of it. The local authorities told me to notify the Royal Mounted Police and to turn all that I had regarding this thing to the local FBI. Hope this helps you.

No, you can't get your money back. Think of this as a very expensive life lesson. The lotto is not going to save you from your poor financial decisions. Learn to live within your means and get a job.

You can contact your state Attorney General, but chances are there is nothing they can do. Unfortunately it is very hard to track down international lotteries.

It sounds elementary, but call the police. They should be able to coordinate something.
