I think Americans are living in a bubble. The outside world always describes America as the country of immigrants.
Whenever I mention American and immigration foreigners can't understand the fuss as they believe all 'Americans are immigrants'.

If you are born in the USA you are not an immigrant. We are a nation whose population is 100% descended from immigrants. We are also a nation that has always looked down on the new comers, from the 1790s right through today. I just think the people who had come here and got established had improved their lives so much that the newer immigrants, by comparison, appeared to be backward to them.

Because we're not immigrants... I guess we are immigrants in a differnet country, but when we hear immigrant we're used to it being illegal aliens, like mexicans and cubans and other things like that, and it isn't a very good thing. I don't like being called an immigrant though I do realize I am one, it just seems like I'm doing something wrong. When I think immigrant, I think illegal... immigrant. I don't speak for all Americans, but I am American and it's my opinion.
