They cost more than a penny to make now.
They use up our valuable zinc and copper resources.
It would save lots of time at the cash register to round up or down to the nearest nickel. (I've seen it, in Sydney.)
The only useful purpose I have heard recently for a penny is to measure the wear on your tires. I bet we can come up with a different way to measure that . . .

[And do the basic math, folks - taxes will NOT increase if you round to the nearest nickel, since half gets rounded down, and half up.]

hey another use for pennies is placing them in between boards to make sure you have enough space in between when building a porch, eyes for kids projects and teaching kids to count by ones lol

yeah pennies are annoying arent they? I wish that things were even numbers like 1.00, 2.00 etc. would make things easier.

Well, I doubt that they will actually round down to the nearest nickel. If you pay 2.97 for a gallon of gas, they'll charge 3$ instead of 2.95.. dont you think?... The Penny doesnt have much relevance out in daily transactions, but it would mess up our whole taxes system.

Yes good question, today I bought a drink and I had to wait for a couple minutes while the lady opened up a new pack of pennies. I ended up just leaving. Also, I once had a guy drive by and hit me in the head with a penny. It hurt and it wouldn't have happened if they didn't exist!!!

No way! Pennies are awesome. Since most people don't like them, I ask for their extra change they have jingling in their pockets and purses. I put them in my piggy banks and over the past few years have collected around $300.00!! In another year or two, I can pay a whole months rent just with my pennies.

(although it will be a huge pain to put them all in rolls)

I agree. I have been known to actually throw away pennies. I hate them jingling in my pocket. I am defiantly not going to keep them and roll them. I have better things to roll. LOL. Change itself is annoying, except quarters which are used in many ways. I need those for bouncing in a shot glass. I leave change all the time wether I am in a restaurant, gas station, or store. I just don't bother with it.

Lets keep only quarters. How 'bout that?

I object! My husband and I save pennies for one of my neices' college fund. We give them to her mom and she puts the balance in a saving account for her. We have been doing this for 8 years and the balance is great. If it weren't for pennies, we could not afford to do this.

It's fun to collect pennies then they add up to a lot of money after awhile.

ya..... The only use I've ever found for a penny is that little kids like them because it makes them think they have money.
