You can't really define what the most succesfful ancient culture was because ancient cultures go further than just the roman and greeks. There are the MAIN Latin American cultures (Inca, Maya, Aztec) then there are the cultures in India (Mehenjadaro, Gupta Empire, Ashoka Empire,....) the Chinese culture, you cannot forget the culture from Africa, the Egyptians, Aksum and Kush, Jenne-jenno, Mali, Nambia, Ghana, Songhai,....also the Japanese culture and those cultures frome Southeast Asia. Each has their own accomplishments and ideas that have been contributed to society today varying from foods to religion there is just no answer to which society was the best.
Yet if you were asking just between the Roman and the Greeks
In the arts and philosohpy the Greeks ruled and in engineering the Romans win it hands down.

It depends on what you mean by success. I suppose that for the most part, the Romans were the most successful ancient culture. The Roman Empire had a unity that the Greek city states didn't, and it stretched all the way from Britain to North Africa. However, the Greeks made more enduring intellectual contributions. After all, they were the ones who made major contributions to philosophy and mathematics, and they also invented the drama and the comedy. And not only that, but "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey" also greatly influenced Western literature.

The Romans had a more extensive part of the world colonized. The Greeks had a more peaceful domain. But I would think the Egyptians had the biggest, most influential culture.

The Sumarians. Succesfull as in most of the well known, long established religions of today(christianity, islam to name two) used Sumarian legends to base their beliefs upon.
It is thought they were the first to have rules and punishments if those rules were broken. They focused on theft, agriculture (or shepherding), property damage, women's rights, marriage rights, children's rights, slave rights, murder, death, and injury.
