This varies as much as the weather does. In my experiences most of the men I have know tend to lean towards the tight fitting underwear. Boxer briefs were and still are popular, as are briefs, and bikinis. A few wear thongs, but most don't find them comfortable and only wear them out.
Then the famous boxers. i have only run across a very few that wore these things. They are a fashion disaster, and you know how we all feel about fashion...lol.
As for Commando style. It is very popular as well. Most like the idea of showing their stuff. I think that is why it's so popular. They can advertise that they are "this big" and catch a man. Plus faster to taking them off....lol. Plus it seems to turn more men on.
However it is all up to you. You are an individual and you wear what you want to wear, when you want to wear them. Or chose nothing at all. If you do decide to wear something, make sure you buy good quality. Fruit of the loom only sends one message. You are a poor boy and have no style. Good luck!

I think it depends on personal preferences. There is too much generalization about gay people, whereas most of them are not very much different from straight people, not least in the choice of the underwear. However, it's also true that many guys get aroused from jocks.

not sure bout most gay men but i wear retro footie shorts which are short, tight and soft silky nylon, love to see other guys in speedos used as underwear or well worn jocks !!

In my experience, a wide variety from none to boxers to briefs... although there was a period there when everyone seemed to be wearing boxer-briefs.
Personally, I cover the full gamut. I like thongs. I like boxers... it just depends on the mood.

i met this **** at this gay bar in russia. i think he was wearing briefs. nothing extreme like g-strings and thongs in normal situations, they only wear those when they need to. most gay men wear stuff with a vpl

It depends some wear boxers, some wear boxer-briefs, and some wear brief. but if your really wild try a g-string or thong, also if you want a all nautral feeling try going commando it's so liberating and you feel so free.

there is not any distinction between what gay men placed on and what immediately men placed on. yet as a wide-spread type, gay men have a tendency to be extra into dressmaker and well known underclothes. commonly gay men placed on extra colourful and relaxing underclothes than immediately men. yet this is purely often (from my observations a minimum of).

That's a generalization. You can't do that. I'd say they just wear whatever they like the best just like all other men.
