The first situation which comes to mind when explaining the difference, is a student facing a math problem. Now, if the student had ever encountered such an exercise before, such a type of exercise, had any knowledge or hint at how to go about the problem, he would be intelligent enough to deal with it. Would he be smart though, he would need no experience, no hints, no former knowledge, he would just be able to do it, just like that. You can be intelligent, and know so many things, but if you do not have that ounce of smartness, it all goes down the drain.

Well I think intelligent people are cunning people which in many ways know the out come of any situation or problem
so if we are battling a though for instance an intelligent person would rather admit this thoughts are wrong while the smart people will probably act on it and find a way out of it later.....
See there is this difference a "smart mouse" and an "intelligent mouse"

An intelligent person has the ability to think better than average, a smart person knows how to use his intelligence (even if it's only average) to its best effect.
Ask anybody who maintains computers on a college campus, and they'll tell you that the biggest offenders in downloading viruses are often the most intelligent professors - they're intelligent, but obviously not smart.

To me smart and intelligent do have the same meaning. the difference that i think you are trying to make is between intellegent or smart and knowldge. To me the former is that which refers to a persons inante cognitive abitlities, or lack there of, or the abitlity that a persons has to understand, retian and apply information. Where Knowldge are these bits of imformation gained.

I think intelligence is more like knowing alot of stuff, but being sort of detatched from the physical world. I think smart is knowing alot of stuff and being in tune with the physical world.
