I wouldn't invent it, it's already invented, but I would build a humming pot (or however you would translate schrammelpot/rummelpott. There is also a brazilian version called quicas.
It's like a drum where the skin is connected with either a rod or a piece of string and rubbing that makes a weird noise.

Use the bowl to put some paint in. Dip your sttring in and drop it on a piece of paper repreatedly and create some art.
