Last week he started complaining his achillies tendon hurt after every practice. I have been icing it , advil and letting the coaches know. But someone said it could actually tear or break if he keeps using it.His 1st Tourn is tomorrow. What sould I do?If I pull him out he and his team would be devastated.

All kids dream of becoming major league ballplayers that is what drives them to keep going even when hurt. I f you force him out he may hold it agianst you if you dont and he injures it more he will hold that agiasnt you. NO win situation. You best bet is to cut out all leg work during practice. He can swing a bat without hurting it and he can take ground balls if hit right at him this will keep his timing and reaction time up to speed. Wrap the ankel and heat and stretch at night. Best of luck..

He's only 11 and playing baseball two times a day for 3 hours per practice?? That's your problem there. If he didn't play so much he probably wouldn't be hurt in the first place. That's way too much! They're only 11. He'll end up getting burned out before he even makes it to high school to play real ball and possibly miss a chance to get recruited. Trust me, I played softball non-stop for 8 years and I got burnt out and didn't have the heart for it anymore. Relax, baseball isn't about practice, it's about the game. Baseball is about playing and not thinking so much. If you practice him too hard he'll forget that it's all about the love of the game. Not practice.
First off, it's a team sport so yea it'll suck if he misses a game, but there are other people on the team too. If he hurts it worse he could miss more than just a game. Take him to a doctor and see what he suggests is best for him. I wouldn't risk it for someone who is only 11. He has so much ahead for him in his baseball career. Slow down and don't pressure him. If he thinks it's not for the love of baseball he'll resent the game and resent all those that have pushed him.

see a doc and if need be have him sit out. an achillies tendon injury for a child of this age could be something that would bother him for the rest of his life. Now wouldn't he be bummed if he couldn't play baseball when hes in high school because he tore his achillies tendon when he was 11 playing in a little league tournament? You need to make this clear that he did the right thing by telling you he was hurt and that there is plenty of baseball to be played in his lifetime. Drive the fact that if something were to happen to his achillies tendon he may not be able to play for much longer period of time than if he just sits out and gives it time to rest and heal.
This could all just be coming from ill-fitting shoes, make sure his shoes are fitting correctly as well. Many achillies tendon injuries are from badly fit shoes. Hope this helps.

I played softball for ten years and I had started having problems when I was 13, I am 19 now and my arm problems continued so long that it ruined my chances of playing in college. Take your son to a sports medicine doctor NOW don't wait. I regret not listening to my parents wishes and not sittting out a few games. It would have helped in the long run. If he is not going to sit out a few games... pop two aleve before and after the game to help with pain.. rub on ICEE HOT or some other form of muscle relief gel before, during, and after his game.. That should help ease the pain, but it would be better to see a doc.

Ok I play baseball too. And my achillies tendon gets really sore. But I wear the Gel Pads in my shoes. You know the Doctor Scheolls Gels. They work pretty well. But make sure he wears them in all of his shoes not just cleats. Because I wore them for a long time then stopped wearing them. And while wearing them my tendon was fine. Then after I stopped wearing them because I thought my tendon was fine, the tendon got all swollen and bruised. So make sure he wears them in all shoes. Good Luck in the All-Stars!

Take him to an orthopedist and get an expert opinion before he plays another minute. His body is still growing. He is too young to live the rest of his life with a sports injury.
Would he be more devastated by missing a game or two or by ending his baseball career at the age of 11?

Tough call for you, but if he tears his Achilles he'll be shut down for the rest of the season and maybe even in a cast for awhile. Check his shoes for the future he may need some with more arch support.

Talk to a docotr, adn also if the team has a trainer talk to the trainer. You may want to consider taping the ankle during practice and games to prevent further injury.
