The volitile SEC could go any number of ways this year. The Gamecocks are a lock to get 7 wins this season. Eight, nine, or ten is entirely possible. Here's their schedule:
A. 31 at Miss State
S. 9 Georgia
S. 16 Wofford
S. 23 Florida Atlantic
S. 28 Auburn
O. 7 at Kentucky
O. 21 at Vanderbilt
O. 28 Tennessee
N. 4 Arkansas
N. 11 at Florida
N. 18 Middle Tennessee
N. 25 at Clemson
If they are to win ten games, they would have to beat all but two of these opponents (or nine and a Bowl Victory, or eight and the SEC title game and a Bowl Victory).
Georgia and South Carolina always play each other close--in the past five meetings between these two, four games were decided by less than a touchdown. The wind seems to have been blowing in Georgia's direction lately, but the Dawgs come to Williams-Brice this season with an unproven QB and significant losses on defense.
Auburn could be one of the losses that the Gamecocks endure, even though the Tigers come to Columbia.
Hosting Tennessee at home is anothe swing game. The Gamecocks edged the Vols by one point last season in Knoxville, and Phil Fulmer will attack the Garnet and Black with all he's got. Steve Spurrier, however, seems to own Fulmer, so this one could go either way.
Hosting Arkansas on Homecoming could turn out to be tougher than the Gamecocks expect. The Razorbacks are ready to return to form, and new Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn and stud rookie QB Mitch Mustain have two full months to get settled before the road trip to Carolina. I will chalk this up as a win for Carolina, based alone on the Spurrier factor. But, don't forget that USC was only able to beat the 'Backs by 4 last year.
The trip into the swamp to meet Urban Meyer and his Gators is probably a loss. Steve Spurrier's less-than-welcome homecoming to Gainesville will provide motivation on both sides of the field. Look for a hard-fought battle, with the Gators pulling away in the end.
The last big test for this team will be the road trip to arch-rival Clemson. The Gamecocks have lost 4 straight to the Tigers, but Clemson will have to find a way to beat Carolina without Charlie Whitehurst.
Assuming they can go 6-0 against Miss St, Wofford, Fla Atl, Kentucky, Vandy, and Middle Tennessee, they must go 3-3 against the above listed teams, and tack on a Post Season victory.
I think that it is absolutely possible---heck, I'll even say likely that the Gamecocks have double-digit victories by the end of this year.

Why does everyone keep forgetting that the college football season is now 12 games?
As for the 'Cocks, their non-conference schedule outside of Clemson, like every other SEC school, is a joke (Wofford, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee), so all of those are wins. They go to Clemson, and that's always a war. In conference, they avoid Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss. They have possibly the easiest road schedule in conference possible, going to Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vandy, and Florida (well, Florida's a loss, but the other three should be easy wins). Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Arkansas come to Columbia.
I'm going to say 9-3, with losses at Clemson, at Florida, and at home to either Georgia or Auburn.

Realistically winning ten games isn't that to far fetched... But if you ask me I would say they'll probably only win 8 or maybe 9 tops. And for that to happen they would have pull of an upset or two playing Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Clemson. They play a soft non conference schedule but they still have a tough road through the SEC. So I don't know about 10, but 8 is guaranteed.

There is no way in FREAKING HELL that bunch is going to go 10-2 this year. Several positions need revamping and while their schedule isn't a killer, there are at least 3 schools in the SEC that can/will murder that bunch regardless of where the game is played. Georgia, Florida, possibly Tennessee, etc. will beat them. Spurrier will have them more competitive that usual, but without enough SEC caliber athletes, they will go 8-4.

I don't think Spurrier does. He seems to think they're pretty lazy. Unless that's just motivation. Still, the SEC'll be tough for the Gamecocks to win 10 this year. I'd put money on "No".
