I have two examples of it. My own brother won't look me in the eyes when he talks to me, and no...I haven't done anything wrong. In fact I've been nothing but kind to him over the years. I've also noticed that one of my boyfriends friends won't make eye contact. I've only met him a few times in the past so I haven't done anything to offend him. Anyways it really creeps me out and it offends me, I feel like I don't live up to their standands. I'm starting to not want to spend my time with these people. I understand shyness could be why but, I am really shy...I probably have social anxiety disorder but I always make an effort to make eye contact as it is polite and it is part of good communication skills. Any ideas as to why? How do you cope with this rude behavior? Thanks.

Maybe they are staring at your rack... not your brother, but the other guy.

Well...I really wish people would put down their age when they ask questions like this because it makes it easier to give a good answer.
Anyway, if you are in your early teens (12-15) and you are an attractive girl...(or even down right dropdead gorgeous) I would say that these boys aren't making eye contact for one reason...they find you sexually attractive. Yes, even your brother can think of you as being sexy! They are shy, like you and don't want to look you in the eye...because they are afriad of being rejected by you...and they are also afraid of you looking at them and the reaction it will have on their bodies...their hormones are raging right now and it really doesn't take much to make a guy get excited at this age...they may be hoping you don't notice that you have gotten them excited.

Eye contact is important and respectful, I agree. It more than likely is that the person just isn't in to what you are talking about, not a personal thing at all. As for trying to "correct" this conduct, you could try moving your head along with theirs so that they realize you want eye contact. Or you can flat out tell the person that you'd feel much more comfortable if they made eye contact with you, that it bothers you and makes you feel like you're boring or annoying them. Hope you can find a "cure!" :)

Some people just never learn that looking someone in the eye is the right thing to do. There are many people who won't look someone in the eye when they talk because they feel intimidated or "lower" than the person talking. Intimidation can be because of size, age, or sex. Some guys won't look girls in the eye because of inner thoughts, or secretly liking that person. And some people are just ignorant and rude.

If there is no eye contact, but face contact, it is not too bad. I have a tooth that sticks higher than the others. It bothers me sometimes to keep eye contact.
