An old mystery movie with Humphrey Bogart, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorrie, Mary Astor and of course who could ever forget the performance put on by that famous bird...
The Maltese Falcon.

This will probably come as no surprise given my Yahoo! ID, but I always recommend Kenneth Branagh's "Dead Again" (a sleeper hit in 1991) to anyone and everyone. It's an extraordinarily effective homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock, and owes a particular debt of gratitude to "Spellbound" (Gregory Peck & Ingrid Bergman) - which is also an excellent mystery/suspense film.
Each may require minor suspension of disbelief - "Dead Again"'s plot involves past life regression, and some feel that "Spellbound" presents an oversimplified view of the then-nascent social science of psychology - but I think that's a pretty common prerequisite for watching any film of the genre.
