yes you can, but make sure it is not limestone. That will mess with your water parameters, cloudy water, etc.

the vinegar method failed me many times. You may use any other rock, as long as it has been sterilized. soak the rock in a bucket with a few tablespoons of bleach for a few hours, then boil it.

Yes but first boil them in sea salt and water.You can also use driftwood you find in lakes for decoration,do the same with the wood.

Yes-you got it..i have also read that soaking them in strong salt water solution first works well and scrub well then rise and dry run through dishwasher

Pour vinegar on the rock and if it fizzles then you cant use it in an aquarium.

If it doesnt fizzle then its safe to use.

Fizzling shows that it will slowly desolve in the tank and alter your tank chemistry.
