Well, I try to not label myself, though I make it no secret that I lean to the left. I am the way I am because I enjoy thinking and acting for myself; I think it is called life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Also, I am not afraid to ask questions.

I have aligned myself with the Republicans for a few reasons.
-- I believe that the most effective government is the one closest to the people, so I'm all for a smaller federal government and state's rights.
-- I belive in personal responsibility. Anybody can get some kind of job if they look hard enough. We shouldn't cater to those who are too lazy to find one. Having a bloated welfare budget that allows not only people who, for whatever reason, can't work, but also those who just don't want to work, to live forever on the tax dollars of those who do work doesn't help anyone. It punishes the taxpayers, it makes welfare abuse easier, and makes people dependant on welfare as their sole means of income for too long a time.
-- I believe in lower taxes for those who's money drives the economy, namely small and medium-sized business owners and corporations. Taxing them huge percentages of their income means they have less to put back into the economy, stagnating growth and over time, increasing consumer cost and unemployement.
-- I don't believe in gun control. It should be pretty obvious by now that it doesn't work. The only people who are disarmed by gun control are law-abiding citizens who aren't the problem.
-- I don't belive in open borders or illegal immigrant amnesty. Frankly, it scares me that there are 11 million people in this country that nobody knows anything about. We are living in a day and age where as few as a dozen people, or less, can wreak enormous havoc on the public. We shouldn't reward people for breaking the law, and we need to know as much as possible about the people who want to get into the country.
-- I don't believe in affirmative action, racial quotas, or set-asides for minorities. Just because these policies are discriminatory toward the majority in this country, rather than the minority, doesn't make it okay. And if I were a minority, I would honestly feel a little insulted that democrats don't think I could make it on my own, without government aid.
There are other reasons, but I'm tired of typing, so I will just leave you with these examples.

I am an independant because I believe in voting for the candidate you find most beneficial, not voting based on party lines! There are good sides and bad sides to both the dems. and reps. so why would you make a decision to always agree with them, they are only human and are bound to have some flaws too! Just pick the best person for the job, no matter what they call themself!

I am a conservative who usually votes rebuplican.
Part of the reason is a fundamental belief in right and wrong. I believe in self reliance, personal responsabillity, and limited government.
I am also a business owner and know firsthand how debillitating government regulations and high taxes can be. Liberal Democrats always seem to be on the side of higher taxes and more regulation of businesses.

it is a two party system,
until there is a realistic third party i am sticking with the Democaratic Party.
Does it represent every postion i have, no.
But more often than not it is the better of the two parties.
I am proud to be a democrat. Proud as F##k.
No party is perfect but we actually want to progress the country not keep it back,
not long for the good ol' days of Jim Crow, the good ol' days of Mccarthyism, the good ol' days Nixions exectutive over reach,

Conservative Republican (sometimes veering off into "independent" because republicans can be too liberal for my taste) because generally speaking that political party holds true to the foundations of our government and adheres to proven political practices. See the "Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith.

I consider myself a Libertarian. I think people should be allowed to do what ever they want, as long as they don't infringe on anyone else's right to do the same. I believe the government has an obligation to react to threats when pushed. I don't believe that tax payers' money should be used to create a welfare state. The government should provide education, roads, and safety.
I voted for Bush in the last to elections. The first time I voted for him because Al Gore wanted to perpetuate the welfare state we now live in. The second time I voted for him because I believe he was(and still is) on the right track when it comes to handling terrorists, and John Kerry would have helped to perpetuate the welfare state we now live in.

My mother told me that republicans think of helping others first, and democrats think of helping our own first. I am only democrat because I think our country needs our help more. We have kids in our own country who go to sleep on an empty stomach and a dirty floor. Ppl with no medical care. Everyone in this country should have medical coverage. We are a rich country. Everyone, including doctors say in order to help someone else, first you need to help yourself. When you have YOU right, then help others.
Then there is the matter of giving other countries a TON of financial help, ie. millions of dollars, and they always vote against us and don't even try to help themselves because, hey, why should they? We do it for them.

I'm a Democrat cause I want to protect the helpless from big business. I believe that God gave me a choice and my religion should not interfere in Government, like the countries we are at war with.

How about none of the above? Seems like this country has a lot of problems because people pick sides, vote party lines, and only want what is best for their party. How about voting for the best candidate/platform regaurdless of association? How about actually working together for once?
