Arranged marriages are still the custom in many cultures, and no, the people don't always know each other beforehand.
Someone I know of (an Indian guy who lives in the US) just recently went to India to marry the arranged wife. They (and all of their families) met like 3 hours before the wedding. I'm told they were never left alone.
My guess is that if this is what you were expecting since you were small, its probably not a horrible shock.

all it really comes down to is...how well do you really know anybody? You can be with someone for years and years and still find out new things about them. Now here`s the thing, there are no guarantees in life, if two people meet and think that they want to spend the rest of their lifes together, why not get married? I don`t think it`s just the women either. You know...the guys get married, too...

Yes, I have a friend living in the states that is from India. He is not married or dating. His parents have given him until the end of this year to find someone or they will (to marry) he is 26,good-looking and straight,very intelligent but just can't seem to find the one for him so... Guess his parents will
