The only thing I have found to get rid of them are TERMITE products. It cost approx $60.00, however you get the poison spikes that you push into the ground and place around the perimeter of your home.

They've been especially tenacious this year, haven't they? We use a combination of baits indoors, and spray around the foundation of the house. Ideally we'd like to spray indoors as well, but we have a cat who likes to sample everything in sight. Terro ant bait seems to work the best.

The best non-chemical way to rid yourself of ants anywhere is to mix boric acid with some powdered sugar and put it around the ants path. The ants take this substance back to their colony and it will destroy the colony. Using chemical substances, by the way, are very dangerous and toxic, and can be life threatening. And colonies will split up and run when these items are used, and the colony itself will not be destroyed. A boric acid pre-mixed formula is available also at hardware stores for this use.

Sprinkle borax (yes, the laundry stuff) where they will walk through it.
Spray find out where they are coming in if possible and insecticide that, plug up the holes, whatever it takes. Watch and see where the go in you house and maybe you can put borax around the entrance of their hidey hole. Just kill as many as you see once you know where they are. Borax takes a week or so but will destroy their nest and kill their queen, and in the ant world that is all that matters.

traps, sprays, etc.. you're best bet is to have a pest control company come out to get rid of them....I just had this problem last year...Apparently carpenter ants flock to water....so if you find them in a place were there isn't supposed to be water..you may have a leak somewhere...

I like Raid, the kind that says it lasts for 3 months... Spray around baseboards and under sinks.
Fill any holes your house has, usually with caulk.
Also treat your yard with a spreadable ant killer.

Look at the trees surrounding your house. They usually crawl up them and into your house. Treat the trees!
