RISD - Rhode Island School of Design is the number one school in the US for visual arts.
Surprisingly Yale is #2.
Your a good parent to support your child's dream and realize his true talent. I was lucky too, though they were a little shakey at first, my parents have always supported my love for art and I completed my B.A. in Graphic Design 4 years ago. I can't think of anything I love doing more!
Good Luck! RISD looks amazing, if I could do it over, I'd go there, but I might still go back for an MFA

Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts is the best. Located in Southfield, Michigan, a distant suburb of Detroit.

I would recommend looking into the Art Institute of Chicago and Cal Institute of Arts. They have highly ranked grad programs, but also offer BFAs.
